Offshore/Deep Sea Fishing with
Daytona Beach Fishing Charters
Daytona Beach, Florida

Offshore Fishing Trips are our Most Popular Charters!
For the biggest fish and the largest variety of fish, we recommend an offshore fishing trip in the blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Our offshore fishing trips begin just minutes from downtown Daytona Beach where we’ll head down the Halifax River and out through Ponce Inlet for a great time fishing in the open waters of the Atlantic. Call it offshore, deep sea or blue water fishing, at Daytona Beach Fishing Charters, ocean fishing is our specialty.

All our charters are family friendly! That’s Captain Corey & Captain Melissa in the turquoise shirts.

We’re Equipped for both Trolling and Bottom Fishing!
Trolling is the best way to catch big game fish while bottom fishing is usually the best way to catch larger numbers of fish. When trolling, we’ll spend more time finding the highly sought after big specimens and what we catch is dependent on the time of year and what’s running. When bottom fishing, we’ll go directly to one of the many rich artificial reef habitats off the coast of Daytona Beach or New Smyrna Beach that are teeming with fish year round. Experienced anglers looking for a trophy may prefer trolling while less experienced anglers and families with kids may prefer bottom fishing for more guaranteed catches. It’s up to you! Either way, the fishing guide team of Captain Corey and Captain Melissa are always up on what’s in season, what’s biting and where. So let the captains know what your goals are and they’ll cater your fishing trip so everyone on board has the the most fun and the best fishing experience possible.

That’s a 70 pound King Mackerel caught while trolling offshore. Captain Corey is at bottom right.

Trolling - If you like, we can troll along the coast of Daytona Beach and New Smyrna Beach for big predator fish that prowl the nearshore waters such as Cobia and King Mackerel. These nearshore waters are also home to schools of constantly moving Jack Crevalle, Spanish Mackerel, Bonito and Pompano. While trolling nearshore we may also encounter big bull Redfish, Black Drum, Tarpon, Barracudas and many different species of Sharks. Trolling further offshore there are larger fish and more varieties of fish. In these deep sea waters we can troll for more exotic big game fish such as Mahi-Mahi, Wahoo and Sailfish.

Bottom Fishing - When bottom fishing we’ll go directly to one or more of the many artificial reefs off the coast of Daytona Beach or neighboring New Smyrna Beach. This extensive network of man-made reefs have been enormously successful as habitat for bottom dwelling fish species and all the marine life necessary to create a rich, sustainable, marine environment for all types of sea creatures from sponges and corals to crabs and shrimp and all the way up the food chain to the big fish we love to catch.

Captain Melissa holds a Red Snapper caught by a happy guest angler. Bottom fishing is great year round in Daytona Beach.

About Daytona’s Artificial Reefs - There are now 15 artificial reefs off the coast of Volusia County (home to Daytona Beach, New Smyrna Beach and Ponce Inlet) Beginning in 1980 with the purposeful sinking of the WWII Liberty ship, the USS Mindanoa, Volusia County has developed one of the most successful artificial reef systems in the country. These reefs consist of everything from sunken tugs and barges to discarded concrete structures of all types including culverts, bridge platforms, highway barriers and even old WWII aircraft. Everything placed at these reef sites is cleaned and stripped of any harmful components leaving only environmentally safe material as the foundation of new habitat for sea creatures. The captains at Daytona Beach Fishing Charters know these reefs and their inhabitants very well and the reefs are the target of the majority of their offshore fishing trips.

The Fish of Daytona’s Artificial Reefs - There are so many different species of fish that inhabit these reefs it’s impossible to list them all here. However the most popular catches are Snapper and Grouper. Some are in season year round like the Vermilion Snapper, some have limited seasons like the Red Snapper and some are protected species like the huge Goliath Grouper which can weigh up to 600 pounds. Goliath Groupers are strictly catch and release but catching one of these prehistoric giants is an unforgettable experience and an amazing photo opportunity. Captain Corey and Captain Melissa know which species are keepers and which are not but every catch is a lot of fun.

Captain Corey at left helps a guest angler hold up a 50 pound Amberjack caught while fishing Daytona’s artificial reefs.

The most popular big game fish caught on Daytona’s artificial reefs is the Amberjack. This hard fighting predator can reach up to 6 feet in length and weigh as much as 175 pounds although the amberjacks we catch on the reefs typically reach about 40 pounds. Also known as the “reef donkey” because of its stubborn, hard fighting nature, amberjacks can challenge even the most experienced anglers. They are year round inhabitants of Daytona’s reefs and catching one can be the highlight of any angler’s fishing trip. (That’s an amberjack our lady guest caught in the photo at the very top of this page) Amberjack season is year round in Daytona Beach!

Other species typically found on the reefs near Daytona Beach include Triggerfish, Tilefish, Hogfish, Black Sea Bass and Flounder. Many other species will visit the reefs to feed including Redfish, Black Drum, Sharks, Barracudas, Cobia, King Mackerel, Tarpon and just about any species looking for an easy meal.
